The Biratnagar Kings are back for the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025 season, armed with a massively strengthened squad and the ambition to bounce back from their previous campaign.

A Major Overhaul: Squad Changes for 2025

The Kings, who finished 6th in the inaugural NPL season (2024) with only 2 wins from 7 matches, aggressively pursued world-class talent to turn their fortunes around. The franchise, owned by Parash Luniya (M.A.D. Dream Sports), secured their new roster with an auction bid of रू1.51 crore (US$110,000).

Key Player Movements

  • Players Retained (6):

    • Sandeep Lamichhane (Marquee/Captain), Lokesh Bam, Pratish GC, Basir Ahmad, Subash Bhandari, Naren Bhatia

  • New Local (Nepali) Players (6):

    • Narayan Joshi, Surya Tamang, Sahil Patel, Shankar Rana, Shrawan Kisku, Aayush Neupane

  • New Foreign Players (4):

    • Faf du Plessis (SA), Marchant de Lange (SA), George Munsey (SCO), Samuel Daly Heazlett (AUS)

The Kings maintained continuity with their captain and Marquee Player, the bowling maestro Sandeep Lamichhane. They retained five other key local talents.

World-Class International Signings

The most talked-about change is the new international contingent, which is arguably one of the strongest in the league:

  • Faf du Plessis (South Africa): A global T20 superstar, former Proteas captain, and a formidable top-order batter.

  • Martin Guptill (New Zealand): Retained from 2024, the explosive T20 opener provides consistent firepower.

  • Marchant de Lange (South Africa): A high-impact fast bowler known for his pace and ability to hit big.

  • George Munsey (Scotland) & Samuel Daly Heazlett (Australia): Exciting additions to bolster the batting depth.

Leadership and Home Base

The Biratnagar Kings are the team representing the Biratnagar region of Koshi Province. Their home matches are played at the Girija Prasad Koirala Cricket Stadium. The team is captained by the star bowler and Marquee Player, Sandeep Lamichhane.

For the 2025 season, the Kings are guided by Head Coach Dhammika Prasad. He takes over from Kevin O'Brien, who coached the team in their debut 2024 season.

The franchise made its debut in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) in 2024.
